Goldendoodle Colors & Patterns

Not all goldendoodles are golden!

This is surprising to some people. Our first goldendoodle puppy was a gorgeous shade of black. I actually had people try to tell me that I was mistaken on her breed!

Let’s look at where goldendoodles get their colors. Then we will discuss a few fun patterns they can have on their coats as well.

Golden

Goldendoodles are descendants of Golden Retrievers and can therefore have any of the golden shades found in their parent breed. The gold color can vary in intensity from a pale yellow-gold to a deep, rich red-gold.

So that explains the “golden” part, but the “doodle” part is where colors and patters start to get more complex. Of course, the other parent breed is the poodle, and poodles come in a lot of different colors. There are 11 solid colors that are recognized by the AKC.
